  • Welcome to the Archdiocese of       San Francisco

At its founding in 1853 the Archdiocese of San Francisco immediately began serving the immigrant communities that then comprised northern California. Today we continue to serve over a half million Catholics in three counties – San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo – which remains one of the most diverse regions in the United States. Within our Archdiocese you’ll find 89 parishes with Mass offered in 20 different languages. We worship together and also serve our neighbors through active social service, education and health care outreach. We provide exceptional Catholic education in 87 schools throughout the Archdiocese. We seek to educate the whole child—mind, body and spirit—and to that end offer a challenging curriculum, athletic programs to foster healthy lifestyles and achievement, and religious teaching focused on the values of love, respect, and service. We hope you will experience and participate in this most vibrant local church. Our pastors, parishioners, and school staff will be happy to welcome you, in God’s continuing love. -Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone
